Our Story & Beliefs

History of Unionville Baptist Church
Unionville was a vision of Rev. Duell Hinson. It began at a little white church at 4700 Unionville Rd. This church began as a Methodist church in 1905 and was later disbanded due to a lack of attendance. The church was left vacant for many years and seemed to fit into the vision God had for Brother Duell. Through much Labor of cleaning and getting stadium seats out of the old Unionville School, the vision began. The vision began as a Sunday Night Mission. This was for folks in the area who did not have Sunday Night Services at their own church. It was a time for them to be fed from God’s word and to grow in their walk with the Lord. As time went on, there was a need for Wednesday night services as well. It seemed that more and more churches had either closed their doors or simply turned away from preaching the Word on Wednesday night. Brother Duell saw the need and heard the cry of many to expand the ministry to Wednesday night also. Still working as a mission and not on a membership basis, God began to build a foundation that no one could have imagined. Soon, the dedication of those who had been attending led them to start a church that they could support with their tithes and offerings. God once again led Brother Duell to charter the Sunday Night Mission as a Baptist Church.
The Church became a light in the community. Many would speak of the Little White Church that God was really working in. The light of Christ began to shine so brightly that it began to bring in lost sinners from the community. Once they got under the Word of God, conviction drew them to salvation. This change in some from the community caught the eye of many to see that something special was going on in that “Little White Church”.
The church grew moderately for many years. Preacher Duell left the church to pastor another local church, and Pastor Ken Crump was called to the church. He began to lead the church to prepare them for the growth that God had put in his heart. Preacher Ken stayed for about two years before he felt that God was moving him to another church. In the absence of a pastor, the church filled the pulpit with some great men of God. These men came in to help guide the church until the Lord put the man of God he wanted there.
In 1998, The Church called Preacher Hank Parker to the Church. With only a few members attending regularly, God once again put the vision in Preacher Hank’s heart that he had given Brother Duell many years before. That was a Church that would be a great light in the community. Preacher Hank told the Congregation to get ready, God said that it was going to be a Church of Thousands.
The Church didn’t seem to make any sudden moves in physical growth the first year. But the continual preaching of the Word of God brought spiritual growth that many could not see. It was not until May 1999 that God began to visually move visibly in the new ministry of the church. In that year, the first soul was saved, the first baby was born, the first members joined the church, and the first revival was held. This was when God started moving with great power and authority. Since that time, God has not ceased to do great and mighty things. The people of this church were faithful and obedient to his call, and it caused God to be faithful to them (Matt. 6:33).
This caused the Church to enlarge its vision. The church began to fill up, inasmuch as people were standing around the walls to hear the Word of God. The church remodeled and made room for an overflow room. This would allow us to seat 75 more people. It was only two Sundays, and people were standing again. This again led the church to enlarge their vision for the Gospel.
On March 11, 2001, the first deacons' meeting was held to discuss a building fund, land, and the possibility of building a new church. As we prayed for land and the finances to build what God would have us to build, God began to give the increase. Through the tithes and offerings of faithful believers, we were approached by Mr. Craven Baucom about 8.08 acres of land on Baucom Rd. After much prayer, God convicted our congregation about purchasing the property. On July 6, 2003, God allowed us to purchase that property. God confirmed his will for a new building on that property through a Men’s conference on it on November 2, 2003. That day, God gave us two souls for our faithfulness. Through this confirmation, the plans were laid for a facility that would not be full of bells and whistles but would be a place large enough to get the Word of God to as many people as possible.
In September 2005, the Lord allowed us to break ground on this vision. Almost one year to the day, the project was complete. During this project, you could find members walking in the project and praying for the church. Deacons met on Monday nights to kneel, where the altar would be, and pray for God to anoint this place. Donations were given by passersby. People from the community donated their services to see God’s work go forward.
God is still being faithful to us in this new building as he was in the White Church. God’s journey for us has allowed us to enjoy 10 years of His glory here in this new facility. It has been amazing the people that God has added to our family to help in the building of His Kingdom and to make the vision more accessible. It is through your prayers and obedience that God has continued to bless us with 674 souls that have been saved, and around 420 folks have followed Him in baptism, since we have opened the doors in this next phase of God's vision for us. We know that this is only the beginning of greater things, and we cannot wait to see God's favor move upon this congregation as we seek to make a difference in this community, this county, and this country.

Doctrinal Beliefs
We believe that the King James Bible is the nearest version to the original language that is printed today, & we believe the Bible is God's Holy Word. We believe it is without error. We believe that Jesus Christ was born of a virgin birth (Isaiah 7:14). We believe that Gods word became flesh through Him as He walked 33.5 years preaching and teaching the gospel (John1:1). We believe that He was hung on the cross for the sins of all the world (1 John 2:2). On Calvary, He gave up the ghost (Mark 15:37). They placed Him in a borrowed tomb, with a stone sealing the door. On the third day, as He promised, He rose from the dead and defeated hell and the grave (1 Corinthians 15:4). Some 40 days later, after revealing Himself to many, He ascended into heaven to sit at the right hand of God the Father. There He is making intercession for those who will call on His name (Romans 8:34).
We believe, according to (John 14:6), that Jesus is the only way to heaven. That way is made when the Holy Ghost pricks (John 6:44) our hearts, we confess (Romans 10:9) ourselves as a sinner, and believe on Christ to be our savior. This is Christ's will (2 Peter 3.9) for us. When we, as sinners, receive His gift for us, that is when our name is written in the Lamb's book of life, Christ’s shed blood is applied to our sinful lives, and He not only forgives our sins, but cleanses (1 John 1:9) us from all unrighteousness. From that point, our lives are forever changed by His grace (2 Corinthians 5:17).
All praise and honor to our Lord and Savior, whose finished work on Calvary has broken the chains of sin and set those who will believe (John 3:15-18) free from condemnation. Since the blood of Jesus has been applied, we are now heirs of God and joint heirs (Romans 8:17) with Christ Jesus. We believe that Jesus' Blood is not only a cleansing Blood, but it is a keeping (John 10:28) Blood. Having this assurance (1 John 5:11-13), we have a hope of Christ's returning in the Rapture ("caught up" 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18) to take His children home to be with Him in heaven.

Denomination: Missionary Baptist
Missionary Baptist because Unionville was started on May 1, 1980, as a Sunday night mission. It soon carried over to a Wednesday night service. These services were offered to all those whose church did not have a Sunday or Wednesday service. Soon, the supporters of the mission desired to charter this church. This is where Unionville Baptist stands today.
Vision
Our vision at Unionville is to be a place of worship where all who come would be changed, spiritually, from the person they came as. Our desire at Unionville is that all will experience the love of our Lord and Savior in a personal way. Our desire as members of UBC is to Share Christ, Show Love, and Serve Others.
Salvation
According to the Bible, salvation is needed for anyone to inherit eternal life with Jesus Christ in Heaven. Salvation is a free gift from God to man. This gift was made possible through the death of Jesus Christ on the cross, His burial and His bodily resurrection on the third day. This is the doctrine the Bible calls the gospel (1 Corinthians 5:1-4). God calls us as sinners to come and receive the free gift of salvation (Isaiah 55:1). This call is only given through the pricking of the heart, by the Holy Spirit (John 6:44).
This comes when we accept our position with God (Romans 3:23) as a sinner, unable to save ourselves. God revealed his love for us as sinners through Christ's death on the cross (Romans 5:8). This sacrifice became a payment for our sins. It is not imputed to every man but is a choice (Romans 6:23). This gift could be accepted through your willingness to trust Christ by faith as Lord in your life. Simple confession and sincerity of the heart bring the gift to your heart (Romans 10:9). God has promised that if you call, he will answer (Romans 10:13).

Baptism
Baptism is the believer's first step in obedience to Christ after salvation (Acts 2:38, 41). Even though Baptism is not a type of salvation, and baptism does not wash away your sin, it is an act by which we acknowledge publicly that Jesus Christ is Lord over every area of our lives. Baptism is a picture of what Jesus did for us. He died, was buried, and rose again. Just as Jesus died, you have died to your old life and been “resurrected” to walk in the newness of life with Christ. Baptism is a command given in the Great Commission for every born-again believer (Matthew 28:19-20).
This is also why we baptize by submersion to symbolize His death, burial, and bodily resurrection. (Romans 6:4-6) states, “Therefore we are buried with Him by baptism into death; that like as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in the newness of life. For if we have been planted together in the likeness of His death, we shall be also in the likeness of His resurrection: knowing this, that our old man is crucified with Him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin.”
As we summarize this Holy Ordinance of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, remember these three essentials:
a. Believe in Jesus Christ for eternal salvation.
b. Go to your local church, so that you may ask the Pastor to baptize you
c. Publicly identify with Jesus Christ and be immersed in water baptism.

Communion
The Lord's Supper or Communion is an ordinance that is a command of our Lord Jesus Christ to all who have been born again (John 3:7). Communion is considered by God to be an act of worship to Him. By partaking in the Lord's Supper, the individual believer expresses his/her personal faith and obedience. The Lord's Supper symbolizes the death of Jesus Christ on the cross. The bread symbolizes His body that was broken for every lost sinner, and the cup of juice represents His blood that was shed for the remission of our sins. When we, as believers partake in Communion, we are not only to remember His death on the cross, but we are to look forward to the promise of His soon return (1 Thessalonians 4:13-18, John 14:6). According to the Apostle Paul's writings to the church at Corinth, before a believer partakes in Communion to worship Christ, we must first examine ourselves (1 Corinthians 11:28). The purpose of the self-examination is that we may ask forgiveness of any unconfessed sin currently in our lives. Paul warns us of the danger of eating unworthily
(1 Corinthians 11:29-30). This self-examination not only searches for unconfessed sin but also ensures that sins’ curse has been removed through your faith and trust in Jesus Christ as Savior. There is no command on how frequently Communion should be practiced, but we here at UBC practice every fifth Sunday, Christmas Eve, Thanksgiving, and Easter. Communion should be entered and practiced, bathing it in much prayer. Then, as we complete it, it should be completed with Thanksgiving.

Our Church Covenant
Having been led, as we believe, by the Spirit of God, to receive the Lord Jesus Christ as our Savior and Lord, and on the profession of our faith, having been baptized in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, we do now, in the presence of God and this assembly, most solemnly and joyfully enter into covenant with one another as one body in Christ.
We engage, therefore, by the aid of the Holy Spirit to walk together in Christian love, to strive for the advancement of this church, in knowledge, holiness, and comfort; to promote it's prosperity and spirituality; to sustain its worship, ordinances, discipline, and doctrines; to contribute cheerfully and regularly to the support of the ministry, the expenses of the church, the relief of the poor, and the spread of the Gospel through all nations.
We also engage to maintain family and personal devotions; to religiously educate our children; to seek the salvation of our kindred and acquaintances; to walk circumspectly in the world; to be just in our dealings, faithful in our engagements, and exemplary in our deportment; to avoid all tattling, backbiting, and excessive anger; to abstain from the sale and use of intoxicating drinks as a beverage; to be zealous in our efforts to advance the Kingdom of our Savior.
We further engage to watch over one another in brotherly love; to remember one another in prayer; to aid one another in sickness and distress; to cultivate Christian sympathy in feeling and Christian courtesy in speech; to be slow to take offense, but always ready for reconciliation and mindful of the rules of our Savior to secure it without delay. We moreover engage that when we move from this place, we will, as soon as possible, unite with some other church where we can carry out the spirit of this covenant and the principles of God's Word.
